Not the gayest cabin

I heard this joke a week before christmas; What’s the best thing about being an ice addict? Only two sleeps till christmas. It’s funny cuz it’s true :-)

My christmas turned out to be one of those terribly cliched events, where you travel a long way to argue with your family. Thankfully i had plans to go away for new years, so I got to leave the family christmas after lunch. Hazzah! My haul this year consisted of some alco-ma-hol, which is useful, some papiya scented soap, and a photoframe. Great.

But now, now I am once again blogging from the Winsome in Lismore, formally Lismore’s only gay pub. Now lismore has no gay pubs, although it seems the out of town queers can’t be bothered going anywhere else. At least one of the computer terminals still works :-)

We drove up over two day, staying last night in Dorrigo, which was thoroughly lovely. We went bush walking at 8am this morning, and saw what we now consider to be a Padamelon. I also have some cool video of a brush turkey, which I shall post later. After that was the last leg of our drive, and deciding not to go back down the 13km windy cliff road to coffs harbour, we decided on the back way to grafton, which featured a 48km windy cliff road. Of course, none of the maps mentioned this. Still it was very pretty, when it wasn’t terrifying.

And now we are fully ensconced in our cabin, with internal toilet and shower. And while we pretty much backed up our entire apartment and brought it with us, somehow we are not the gayest cabin in the caravan park. No, the privilege is reserved for the Gay-A-Y Gay bois in the cabin across the way, who’ve been playing loud dance music since 3pm. Go them :-)

Movie trailer mash-ups…

…are one of my favourite things at the moment. Similar to music mash-ups, you combine the shots of one movie with the trailer of another. Re-cuts of trailers are also great. Watching them is just one more great way to use you-tube to procrastinate.

Grumpy Clown Girls rock my world

The evening has truely been lovely. Started with meeting Miss L at Redfern to go to Medium Rare Gallery for opening night of exhibition. The series of clown paintings was breathtakingly beautiful, and totally unexpected, cuz, u know, its clowns. I was immediately taken with the painting of two grumpy clown girls standing on a pink cloud with a pink background. Had I a spare sum of cash I would have immediately purchased it. It was purchased by someone else, which makes me happy, cuz the painter is one of the kooky kids, and deserves support for being wonderful and creative. Miss R and Miss A turned up also, which is always a pleasure, and it was lovely to see Miss S-R again after so long and chat about stuff. Mr N and his bf were also there, which was lovely to see and frustrating to watch, in a good way.

Onwards afterwards to newtown to meet up with Mr A for drinks at the newtown. Started slow, but said hello to Mr C from london who’d I’d met in passing once before, and he stayed and chatted for ages longer then he’d intended.  Beers later we said goodbye, and Mr A and I headed for the imperial for one last beer. Sitting over beverages we said hello to Mr S who’d come down from the newtown, and also Mr A, who just turned up. Two beers later Mr A and I headed off, and outside on the footpath ran into Mr A again, Mr P M, and Mr J. I retold the joke Kochie had told on sunrise the other day, the one about John Howard and Janette using Kim’s penis to write in the snow, and everyone laughed, cuz seriously, who gets up early enough for sunrise? Then the delightful discovery that Mr J and I live but two blocks apart and are practically neighbours. We said goodbye to Mr A and Mr A, and Mr J and I headed down union street. We had a wonderful conversation heading home, Mr J and I, sharing histories and such, and it was delightful to connect with someone I’ve long admired as one of those scarily talented and creative people, someone who it is just such a privilege that you can share in their music, let alone their life.

Ahh, lovely summer evenings, friends, art and music :-)

’tis the stuff of life.

sitcom season

Arrgh! In an effort to save money, I’ve stayed home and watched tv the past few days. Unfortunately, this has conicided with the same time that cut rate american sitcoms return to our screens as the tv networks prepare for the non-ratings period over summer. So in the last few days I’ve seen; that 70’s show, the old adventures of new christine, and here’s the real kicker, two and a half men. Admittedly it was a choice between two and a half man or that australian princess show. oh the horror!

options

Gah! UWS has offered me a spot in their Master of Teaching Program, and MaqU has given me a huge extention to get my personal statement in so they can consider my application, and UNSW has asked for my transcript so they can make a decision by the end of december. Who’d have thunk universities would actually want me as a student? I think I’ll accept the offer at UWS, because it means a 5 years qualification, rather than just a 4 year qualification the the dip eds would give me, unless I get into UNSW, which is only a bus ride away from home.
