The evening has truely been lovely. Started with meeting Miss L at Redfern to go to Medium Rare Gallery for opening night of exhibition. The series of clown paintings was breathtakingly beautiful, and totally unexpected, cuz, u know, its clowns. I was immediately taken with the painting of two grumpy clown girls standing on a pink cloud with a pink background. Had I a spare sum of cash I would have immediately purchased it. It was purchased by someone else, which makes me happy, cuz the painter is one of the kooky kids, and deserves support for being wonderful and creative. Miss R and Miss A turned up also, which is always a pleasure, and it was lovely to see Miss S-R again after so long and chat about stuff. Mr N and his bf were also there, which was lovely to see and frustrating to watch, in a good way.
Onwards afterwards to newtown to meet up with Mr A for drinks at the newtown. Started slow, but said hello to Mr C from london who’d I’d met in passing once before, and he stayed and chatted for ages longer then he’d intended. Beers later we said goodbye, and Mr A and I headed for the imperial for one last beer. Sitting over beverages we said hello to Mr S who’d come down from the newtown, and also Mr A, who just turned up. Two beers later Mr A and I headed off, and outside on the footpath ran into Mr A again, Mr P M, and Mr J. I retold the joke Kochie had told on sunrise the other day, the one about John Howard and Janette using Kim’s penis to write in the snow, and everyone laughed, cuz seriously, who gets up early enough for sunrise? Then the delightful discovery that Mr J and I live but two blocks apart and are practically neighbours. We said goodbye to Mr A and Mr A, and Mr J and I headed down union street. We had a wonderful conversation heading home, Mr J and I, sharing histories and such, and it was delightful to connect with someone I’ve long admired as one of those scarily talented and creative people, someone who it is just such a privilege that you can share in their music, let alone their life.
Ahh, lovely summer evenings, friends, art and music
’tis the stuff of life.
